Geo Wise Adventures: Learning to read the landscape while walking

Do you want to go on an excursion with a real-life professor like Indiana Jones? Come with us on an excursion to Valencia.

Join us to learn about environmental issues and how holistic solutions can make our landscapes more sustainable. The philosophy of these excursions is learning about the landscape and the people that live there. How? We walk and bike to be taught by the land, enjoy to meet the people, eat with them, see how they cook local food and taste their wines while we learned how it is

made.

The Earth landscapes we-re dramatically changed under the influence of people living in it and especially due to the development of the agriculture economy. Grazing, ploughing, fire, irrigation, terraces, plant and animal selection, changes in the river landforms and slope morphology… are some of the most known impacts. The Mediterranean is the right place to see this impact of agriculture because the Eastern Mediterranean was the pioneer area in the world to develop the agriculture some 12,000 year ago. Agriculture also contributed to build landscapes that are the results of millennia old work by men and women. With this journey we will show different landscapes in the Valencia region, nature, history, the land, the people… and for this we must walk in the orange orchards, paddy fields, horticultural gardens, vineyards, olive groves, greenhouses, and meet the farmers that are the engine of these new landscapes. We will show the past and the present of wine, rice, olive oil and of course: oranges!
